This was my first century ride. I am so glad I picked the Cool Breeze. The organizers and volunteers created a great event. The route was scenic, safe, and well marked. The rest stops had plenty of good food and variety. The lunch and post race meal were delicious. The participants were extremely friendly and it was easy to find folks to ride with. I will definitely do it next year.

This was by far the funnest and most beautiful century. The people volunteering were superb, and the route is one of the most beautiful in CA. Also, whoever is doing your jerseys is doing an OUTSTANDING job. The artwork is truly amazing.

I have ridden Cool Breeze 5 times including 2019. I only missed 2017 and 2018 as a result of injury from motorcycle accident in Oct 2016. It is one of my favorite rides. It has enough climbing to be challenging for me without being too difficult. I’m not a good climber so I just do the classic Century. The rest stops are stocked with typical stuff but by far my favorite is the watermelon at rest stop 2 and 4. So refreshing. Environmentally friendly water stations are a plus! Lunch on this ride is one of my favorites. I take a photo and share it and always get comments on how good it looks. The last rest stop has popsicles. Who wouldn’t enjoy that? At finish they have food too! There is also a small building at far end of parking with SHOWERS! I have used these showers after every ride because I drive 90 miles home after riding 100 miles. Nice to not have to do so still grungy from ride. I will be back next year!

Had a great time for my first Century ride, glad that my first experience was at the Cool Breeze, definitely recommend to other cyclists looking to complete their first century in a good quality ride, with amazing scenery.

I absolutely love this ride; the course is one-of-a-kind and gorgeous. That would be enough but the Kiwanis of Ventura and all other organizers have put together a top-notch team of volunteers who literally make every part of the day a “breeze.” The SAG stops are extremely well attended to and FREQENT…which I love. No other group takes care of you as well. Great job. Slowly recruiting all my friends for this one.

Great overall ride experience, first time doing this ride and will definitely come back. The pricing and registration was affordable and easy, we came with a group of 6 and we all enjoyed the route. The rest stops were well stocked with drinks and snack, lunch was a great time to relax a bit and refuel. My favorite part of the ride would be the decent from the Santa Barbara mountains, the roads had minimal traffic and you could really pick up some speed in certain sections. You can’t beat the views on this ride for the ocean, beach and hills. Would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great Century to ride.

First Cool Breeze, lots of bike paths keeping riders away from street traffic for the majority of the ride. The ocean views and breeze were definitely a nod to its name sake ‘Cool Breeze’. The volunteers were amazing at all the rest stops from start to finish and there were plenty of peanut butter and bananas and other fruits for nourishment with a meats and more options for lunch. Loved the Popsicle at 14 miles to the end and finished with ice cream or another buffet if you like. I especially like the bell and cheering for my first Century finish.

I rode the Classic century last weekend and it was great. There’s a few factors that stand out about the course that I enjoyed. First, was that a good deal of it was on a dedicated bike path, and the roads that we were on were not heavily trafficked. Secondly I appreciated how few stoplights there were on the course. It took over 30 miles to hit our first light, for example. That makes for a much more enjoyable ride for sure. Third, I appreciated how close we were to the ocean for most of the ride. That really helped the temperature stay cool and it never got too warm out on the course.

Some of the roads were in poor shape, but that is more a reflection of Santa Barbara in general and not something that can be controlled by the ride organizers. I would recommend this century to anybody who wants a beautiful, scenic ride with great aid stations and SAG.

This was my first time riding the Cool Breeze Standard Century. An overall quite challenging century but felt good after I was done and likely due to the scenic routes and great weather! Ice and colder drinks would have been a nice addition versus the given options. Great ride!

My first true century (previous one was only 93 miles), and it was awesome! We were lucky to have relatively cool weather. Staff was very friendly and helpful, regular century route was excellent with a good mix of flat coastal, some climbing, and great scenery. I will definitely ride this one again next year, as it is a day trip for me. The only negative for me was the poor quality of the event jersey. Artwork is okay but the workmanship and materials are low grade. I’d rather pay me and get quality that I would ride in regularly.

The Cool Breeze Century is now a SoCal classic. The start/end facility is one of the best with somewhat secured parking, The ride fee is not cheap at around $90 with no T-shirt. However, they serve a full lunch and dinner with ice cream/popsicle. Rest stops are roughly every 20 miles. 101 miles for the regular Century with about 4,200 foot ascent climb. Many book local hotel rooms and stay the night before and after as the return home traffic tends to be heavy. The amount of participants is just right … Not to many. The start as you come procedure is convenient and safer than bulk starts. Overall, I do recommend this ride. Staying overnight and planning a nice dinner can improve your experience.

This was my 2nd Cool Breeze. Last year I did the classic century, and this year I opted for the metric. This is still one of the best organized rides I’ve done. Check-in the night before was quick, and the staff was plentiful and they knew what they were doing. The photos were based off of RFID chips in the helmet numbers, making finding photos of myself afterwards super easy. The ride was Saturday and the photos were up and posted on Monday morning. The metric century started off with a gradual 16 miles of climbing into Ojai for the first stop. After that, it was a windy (and pretty) canyon road back to the coast. Two years in a row, this ride is a winner in my book.

The ride was very enjoyable. But depending on the course you took, accommodations varied quite a bit. The “Hilly” Century did not have a rest break at 15, or 30 mile points. And they did not get any photo coverage like the normal Century ride did. The normal Century was very well accommodated.

Parking and registration organization was a lot smoother experience than the last time I did this ride, in 2014. Staff was all very friendly and mostly knowledgeable about the area. Bike paths got a bit crowded on some sections, and there were a lot of stop signs on one section in Ojai on the metric century. Otherwise, the Ojai portion of the ride was lovely.

The spread at Rincon included a peanut butter/banana/Newton snack that was a fabulous combo of energy and taste. The vegetarian option at the post-ride meal was unusual but tasty, and the helpers serving the meal were all very enthusiastic and friendly. I like the idea of mailing the patch so that it’s not over-produced and wasteful. Had a great time, and hope fundraising goals were met!

3rd Cool Breeze Century for me. This year I did the hilly century – challenging but beautiful! This is overall one of the better organized rides – several options for distances, great rest stops, great staff, great SAG support, great roads and scenery. A good portion of the ride is along the coast – how can it not be great! Enjoyed meeting riders with different riding abilities, having a great time. Planning on next year…

This was my first century and my second organized group ride (the other was the Mammoth Grand Fondo). The ride was epic, the views majestic, the volunteers- cheery and helpful, the SAG Support was fast and amazing (I had a flat and was repaired and back on the road quickly), the food at the rest stops-superb, the weather-perfect. Overall, it was a fantastic experience and I would recommend the Cool Breeze Century.

Really great/ scenic ride along the central coast. Really well organized, well supported in terms of friendly help and lots of food at each rest stop. Course is well marked, and a great time to ride. Only thing that could have been better is some type of schwags for finishers. I would have gladly paid an extra $20.00 for a medal/ shirt something to commemorate the event and finishing it. Overall 9 out of 10 for the whole event though, highly recommend.

This was my 6th Cool Breeze. We rode the 60 mile route this year. I look forward to the ride due to the area in which it’s planned, Ventura CA. It’s also nice to due a cool summer ride for a change. Living in a very hot Glendale, Az, its very hard to get out and do much cycling. It is nice to ride though green hills and along the coast and see the ocean. The Cool Breeze Century provides good route maps and the routes were well marked The sag support is good, great snacks at the stops, but the lunch was not as good as it had been in the past

I’ve been an avid cyclist for many, many years. Organized rides and tours are the best. They get lots of like minded people both experienced and newcomers to get together and ride. I’ve written the Cool Breeze Century several times, actually I look forward to the ride due to the area in which it’s planned, Ventura CA. It’s also nice to due a cool summer ride for a change. Living in a very hot city (Lancaster, CA) its very hard to indulge in my absolute favorite past time, cycling. The Cool Breeze Century provides good route maps however the constant turns are a nuisance because one can’t look down so often and ride safely in my opinion. The sag support is good but the dinner after was TERRIBLE. In my opinion a lunch truck or a credible venue would be better as the money spent on food is a waste.

I did this ride a couple of times years ago, before it used the bike paths. While I loved the safety factor from cars, the bike paths often were narrow and occupied not only my multiple-experience-level cyclists, but other casual riders as well. I had a difficult situation with a long line of cyclists who would not observe the passing etiquette and kept blocking me from passing, including not letting me in once I ran out of straight path but forcing me into oncoming traffic on a blind corner. This is not the the fault of the ride organizers, of course, but the path is a bit narrow for so much traffic, in my opinion. In hindsight, I guess I just should have slowed down to match their pace, but I was trying to catch up to my friends. It never occurred to me that experienced cyclists would make passing such a risky situation.

I never once had to consult my cue sheet. With two exceptions in which the signs were posted across the street from the idea spot for a sign, all the markers were easy to spot and follow. I did hear about one group who missed a turn because they did not see a sign. That happens on most rides at some point. The law enforcement officers who were flagging cyclists and traffic were a nice touch in a spotty area and not something we often find on rides like this. Kudoes to the sponsor for arranging that and to law enforcement for providing the officers.

The food was simple and usual rest stop fare, with the exception of the popsicles at Rincon. They are such an icon after all these years there is even a sign in front of which cyclists take photographs.

Of course, the scenery is great along the coast. Even though the course of the ride changed quite a bit from my previous experience, it was enjoyable and I would like to do it again, hopefully the easy century next time. I stayed at a hotel near the bike path at the beach and was able to ride about four miles to the ride start all but about half a mile on the trail. You must dodge other bikes and pedestrians, but you can watch the surfers and artists who have set up their wares and the surf and then follow along to the school, making it very easy to get to the start without having to drive. And you can meander through downtown after the ride or the next day if you want.

Note about the ratings choices: I don’t know if the SAG had ham radio, but I did see SAG and we know someone who used their services. As far as perks, it was a nice start, but too many things are lumped in. They was no extra stuff I am aware of. There were vendors and food for sale that benefited a student group, which is great. There was clothing for purchase. My medium ratings for safety and road quality are based mostly on my preference and my experience. The paths in some instances just seem narrow for the volume of traffic going in both directions that this type of event brings. The experience of others may vary.

A great ride! First along the beach, then up in the hills above Santa Barbara, which was magic. Even with with a total of 5000 feet of elevation gain, there were no real steep climbs, or descents. I drove up from San Diego to do this ride and it was well worth it. Highly recommended.

Friendly staff and good availability of SAG and other support. Looking forward to participating in this event in 2018. And, I’m bringing more friends along for the ride.

This was our third Century ride – and it was my favorite!! Great weather beautiful scenic route, some roads were rough, and I didn’t like going on the freeway…although my husband seemed to like it!! The food was great and the people were very nice. They had a lot of rest stops and so much FOOD!! I did notice that the automobile drivers were so nice and gave us the right away!! We had a blast and can’t wait to do it again next year!! Thanks again!!!

What a great event! Beautiful views and pretty quiet roads. The climbing was not that intense, only 2 modest climbs. Once your riding in the switchbacks across the mountain, there are a couple hairpin turns that are not well signed. The staff and volunteers are so helpful and supportive through the whole event. The food as basic PBJ, lunch meat, fruit … I was happy with the PBJ! We will be doing this route again next year, The Temp’s are very pleasant and there is typically a tail wind for the last 40 miles. There are some very scenic and enjoyable sections riding along the coast … even though we hit every light through Santa Barbara along the beach, it was worth it! Would be nice to have some giveaways included (cliff bars, t-shirt, etc…)
    See you next year!

I have had 4 spinal surgeries, I took up cycling because it’s the only time I am not in pain. This was my first organized race. I wanted to make my son’s Proud . We all cycle for different reasons, for me it’s to help with the Grief of having my sister die in my arms. I feel happy when I achieve my miles goal. I have become one with the bike. I can’t afford to purchase my photo. Which shows me smiling. I don’t wear the best gear, but I peddle just the same..This Event brought my family together, Which I believe is what matters. Thank you..

I just rode the classic century, and this is now one of my all-time favorite events. Check-in was supposed to open at 6pm Friday night, but they opened the doors 5 minutes early, so by 6pm I had my jersey number, route slip, bought the t-shirt and was out the door. Excellent organization.
I got to the parking lot at 6am on the day of the event, and parking was well organized and plentiful. I started out at 630am and was pleasantly surprised at how many miles we had with dedicated lanes, and minimal stop signs and lights. The route was well marked.
The rest stops were every 15-20 miles, and had just about everything one would need. The staff were friendly and helpful, and smiles were abundant. The water at the stops was unfortunately served from the ground spigot, through a filter, and out of high-velocity taps. While convenient, the water did not taste very good. It would have been nice to have coffee at least at the first stop.
Scenery! This ride had coasts, and hills, and rolling twisties. It was nice that when we got to the lunch stop in Goleta at mile 55, 85% of the climbing was behind us. The short section on the 101-south was thrilling. This is a must-do event for me. Next year I will bring some friends.

I did the cool breeze century for the first time yesterday. The weather was amazing and the views were extraordinary. The route was very well laid out but confusing at times. When I say well laid out I mean it was not boring and was routed through some BEAUTIFUL terrain. I was in a group of three. As the ride progressed we broke off from each other. At some point each of us got a little lost. At the lunch that followed I heard several people say the same thing. The reason is that the course crosses itself in 3 or 4 spots. Maybe if the signs say something like mile 30? go this way and mile 75? go that way. They really have no swag in a packet which most rides do but that’s not really an issue since most of it ends up in the trash anyway, The offered jersey was very cool and the staff was awesome. Just better signage please!!!

I did 10 Centuries this year and this by far was my favorite! Great organization, spectacular course, reststops were the best!
Would love to know who the person is in the picture with me! It would also be nice to see a little more use of data. Everyone had a number but they didn’t seem to be used for anything. It would be useful for picture identification, determining how well one did on their ride, and how well one did on the climbs etc etc.
