The hype around the Death Ride is due to the word ‘Death’ in the ride title. Yes, the ride is difficult. f you LOVE hill climbing and descending, this is the ride for you. Yes, the scenery is unbelievable in Markleeville and the surrounding mountains. I can’t recall a single bad picture you can take. I’m in the belief that any serious cyclist MUST ride this at least once in their lifetime. That said, don’t expect great food. The rest stops are adequate. Although, there is noodles at the top of Ebbets Pass. The lunch and after-ride food is horrendous. At the minimum, I’d expect an unlimited meal after-ride. Overall, this is a ride if you experience once and complete it, you’ll be satisfied.

Located in the stunning California Alps, the Death RideĀ® course covers the traditional five mountain passes. This challenging course includes climbing both sides of Monitor Pass, both sides of Ebbetts Pass, and the final climb up the east side of Carson Pass. Cyclists will register and finish at Turtle Rock Park, located two miles north of Markleeville, CA.
