This is the first time I rode the Solvang Century. It was a very nice ride. The scenery was the best you will find on any ride like this – absolutely gorgeous. I rode the full century and the roads were fairly good quality (with a few points of exception), and the route markings were the best i’ve seen, by far. The SAG stations were pretty minimal (exact same food at all stations, not much energy stuff if any, etc) but had the basics and they were staffed with very friendly people. The start/finish area was convenient and easy, although I would suggest a bit more excitement at the finish. Overall, the event was well done and I very much enjoyed the day. I will definitely ride this ride again next year.

This was my second Solvang Century (full last year, metric this year) and very enjoyable both years! The location can’t be beat! I enjoyed the Metric a bit more due to less biking through town, and you still got to go through lots of beautiful countryside. This is the only formal bike ride event that I’ve ever done, so I don’t know if this is normal or not, but I like that it’s pretty relaxed, the start is well supported by vendors, the rest stops have plenty of food (although it’s pretty repetitive) and porta-pots were in good condition. But really, it’s the course that will bring me back year after year – it’s so gorgeous that even if it’s rainy or cold you are going to enjoy yourself!

I really enjoyed the ride and will definitly do it again! I rode the easier Less Hilly 1/2 Century and would hesitate to do the regular 1/2 Century if Hills are a challenge as they are for me. The vendor set up behind the Marriot before and after the event were great! I really liked the fact that when I arrived the night before I was able to pick up my packet AND browse the vendors.
The scenery riding past endless winerys was exceptional and I was very happy we had clear beautiful skys!
This ride was very affordable which enabled me to have a little extra “Fun” Money for after the ride when we headed to the Chumash Casino.
I did mark the road quality low as there were a couple of pretty rough stretches and I had to be very aware on the downhills to avoid pot holes but nothing was so bad that I would not return to ride it again!! The whole ride was marked well and very easy to follow the route!!

Great scenery and you can’t beat being in the Santa Barbara wine district for the weekend. The only downside with this ride is that some of the roads are pretty rough. I probably say 5 or 6 flats in the first hour or so. But rough roads aside, this is one of my favorite organized rides in California. The city of Solvang is quite unique (it’s a Swedish themed village) and makes for a different experience and fun change. The course isn’t overly challenging (no super steep climbs) but it can get windy. If you haven’t done the Solvang century you should book it!

Now that I’ve done a few rides of this type, I’m appreciating even more the organization that goes into them. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Rest stops were well-stocked. The routes were extremely well marked. Although some of the road surfaces made me wince at times, I never had a flat and the route went through some beautiful country. I look forward to next year’s event (though hopefully it’ll be a little warmer at the start).

2nd time for this ride, and probably won’t come back. The roads in many spots are terrible and a gravel bike would be better than road. The scenery is great. I don’t ride many fondos but the back roads here are nice and un-crowded albeit very rough in spots. The swag bag had nothing good, and packet pick up was too late the night before and a total zoo….

I rode the 100 Mile century and highly recommend this ride to anyone. The pre-ride expo clearly marked, organized and progressed smoothly the day before the ride. The day of the ride, vendors and support staff were at the race start available to help organize the riders. The event organizers even reached out to the local Solvang pancake shops to have them open early for a pre-ride meal. The rolling hills and green farmlands through Santa Olivas, Vanderberg AF Base and Lompoc were well worth the price of the registration. The support volunteers at the aid stations provided an abundance of snacks and mechanics were available for tech support.

The pre-ride registration at the Hotel was a little time-consuming and could have been organized more efficiently. It seems like many of the registrants were waiting in one long line based on bib number (all around the 5000-7000 range). This could be organized differently, say per last name or age to distribute/speed up the registration.

This is my 3rd year riding the Solvang Century and this is my favorite annual event! The registration is always easy and the organizer responses pretty fast via phone call or email. I like the option to pick 70 miles or 100 miles. The set up is very good including local police and CHP to make sure everyone is safe. this year the weather was prefect, not too cold or hot. it is a phenomenal scenic ride. The support and food at each stop are pretty decent and thoughtful. This year I stayed in santa Barbara and I like the idea of package with the hotel and I am going to try it next year and stay in Solvang instead. It is a wonderful ride and cannot wait to come back again next year.

2nd year riding the Solvang Century and will make an annual event! The course was very well laid out, local police and CHP kept every one safe. We stayed at the Flying Flags RV resort and its fantastic!. We personally had a little confusion when going to check on in Friday night, we assumed the registration and check in was are the same hotel as last year, but that was our fault as we didn’t read the email well enough. The check in was easy and quick with no issues, the volunteers were very pleasant and seemed excited to help at the event.

This was my 4th year riding the Solvang Century. we stayed at the Flaying Flag rv resort and it worked very well for us, specially this year since they moved the start and finish to Buelton.
I always enjoyed the expo, there were a lot of cycling vendors and if we forget to bring anything, we could always find it at the expo. The start of the ride is always super cold, this year was in the upper 30s, and the clothes transfer service that they have at the first aid stop was convenient if you get warmed up and don’t want to carry all of your extra clothes for the rest of your ride.
The ride was very scenic and beautiful but it was also a tough ride, with most of the climbing at the second half of the ride, but it’s really worth the effort!
    Will definitely ride it again!

There are two excellent hotels at the Starting line, one of which hosted. Parking the night before is a pain, but day-of is easy. Buellton and Solvang are convenient to the start, and three, count’em, three restaurants in those towns open at 5am just for this event, to serve breakfast.
This is not an easy ride. The shortest is a 50-miler, and the full Century has some serious hills. Still, it’s not as hard as a Tour de France mountain stage. Just train for it. I rode this without a map, just following the orange arrows stuck to every needed turn at least twice, in bright shades. Different routes, different colors. There are frequent, well-organized SAG stops. They’re not serving meals, they’re serving snacks riders need (PBnJ sandwiches, cantaloupe, pineapple, bananas, peanuts, gorp, energy powder)(Note, could use something with more salt) and water, and a pop-up with a mechanic (Jax shop) who helped me out with a loose headtube nut. Only had one stretch, out in the farm lands, where the road was crunchy and had no shoulder at all. Otherwise, as beautiful and as good a road surface as CA after this much rain can provide. Never seen it this green. Lots of cops riding the route, and helping at every major intersection, including a highway crossing. The staff was excellent (Thanks, Delilah,) and the gear and clothing fair was extensive, including full booths by Kucharik (local clothing company) and Pearl Izumi (you know them, don’t you?), even at 5:30 in the morning. And then, of course, the BBQ Lunch. I finished just in time for the last of it at 4:30pm. Not as fast as I once was, but this is still a great ride. 3 stars on ‘Perks’ only because there’s no ‘Finish’ camera or timer to check, and the food was almost gone by the time I finished, and I wasn’t last by any means. But the jersey is excellent, always has been. I’ll be back.

This was my first century ride and it was a good one! Now I know why it was rated 7 of 10 in difficulty. Hills were tough but the scenery totally made it worth it. Great ride with lots of friendly people. Definitely a must if you love to climb. Couldn’t have asked for a better day with low wind and no rain. Rainy season made it an extra beautiful ride!

I rode the Solvang Century for the first time by recommendation of friends and it lived up to its outstanding reputation in every regard. The 100 mi ride was a wonderful balance of distance and elevation. Sign up, registration and check in were easy and full of helpful detail; there was beautiful scenery throughout the ride, great people riding and at the aid stations, and the post-race gathering was fantastic. The provided meals, and available beers, at the end are definitely something to keep you pedaling – an absolutely delicious finale to a great ride.

Nice event in the middle of wine country, yet prone to rain due to early season (March). Best part of the route is Foxen Canyon.

We love this ride. We’ve been participating in it for over 25 years and it never fails to please. The relationship SCOR has with the community and local law enforcement has made the ride bike friendly and safe. The ride is well-supported and the scenery is over-the-top. If non-riders come to town with us there is always plenty for them to do too. Thanks for another great year!

My first Solvang ride. I think the rain kept many folks off their bikes that day; understandably, for safety reasons. Kudos to all the volunteers who supported during the rain. Kudos to the cooks who BBQd in the rain. The food was delicious!

This was my first ride of this sort. I ride an average of 75-100 miles a month, and I rode the metric century (70.3 miles) here. There were a few long hills (2-3), but nothing I couldn’t handle. I ride the Palos Verdes Peninsula mostly and there are always hills, so I felt prepared. My rear end hurt the most, but that’s just me; I probably need a new saddle. The food at the SAG stops was great, especially the loads of Fig Newtons! Registering was easy Saturday morning, but when handed my “swag bag,” I set it down to pin on my bib, and walked away without it. Upon finishing (last eight miles it started raining, drizzle to moderate, but not impossible to navigate), I located what was left of the registration desk. It turns out I also forgot to pick up my prepaid jersey. When I asked the teen-aged girl at the desk if I could please pick up my jersey, she somewhat snottily asked me for proof I had paid for it (luckily I had an email on my iPhone). When I asked if I could also pick up my swag bag (included in the registration), I was also somewhat snottily told there were no more. The young man who registered me in the morning came over, and I reminded him that I had seen him that morning, received my swag bag, but forgot it at the Registration desk (my fault, not contesting that). In a kind of “Dude” voice, I was told they were all packed away and I couldn’t receive one anymore. I was bummed, and felt that this was poor customer service. I feel he just didn’t want to be inconvenienced. By now, It was raining a little heavier, and I got my BBQ lunch (also included in the price, and very good – salad, chicken, garlic bread, and a brownie). I, along with many others, had no choice but to sit in a wet seat at a wet table and eat in the rain. Knowing that rain was forecast, I feel the organizers could have sprung for a few pop-up canopies under which to eat. So, the day ended soggily, but overall I enjoyed it very much and plan on returning next year. I will probably do the same ride.

This was my first century ride and it was memorable. A friend and I did the ride together so we were able to enjoy each others company and encourage each other throughout the ride. Some of the roads were a little rough, but all in all not bad. The SAG stops were fantastic. My hat off to all the volunteers, they did an outstanding job. Already looking forward to next year to look to improve my time on the route and also the “wall”. I liked being able to locate my time, I started at the bottom and worked my way up because it felt like I was crawling up the wall. To my surprise I kept going higher and higher until I found my number, 219 out of 935. I’ll take that. Once again a wonderful experience and would encourage other riders to give it a shot.

An extraordinary event which captures the imagination of the event planners and demonstrates the support of the entire community. This is an iconic, bucket list ride in Southern California that every rider should have on his or her calendar.

This was my first Solvang Century and, except for the rain, it was great. Beautiful scenery and friendly people. It was quite enjoyable up until the last 20 miles when the rain began. Not much that the organizers could do about that. :o)

This was my first Solvang ride and first Century ride. It was a great experience and I will definitely recommend to all my friends! I am expecting to make this a yearly event going forward. All the volunteers were extremely helpful and there were plenty of healthy food options to refuel at every SAG station. Although it rained, every rider and volunteer remained cheerful and motivational throughout the very scenic 100 mile route.

This was my first century and supported ride. I really enjoyed the scenery and the support stops. The scenery was beautiful. Volunteers were friendly and the route was well marked (minus one or two turns). Even with the rain I greatly enjoyed the ride. I’ve heard that this year the turnout was significantly lower than usual, so there may be a degradation in the enjoyment ranking if the turnout was more typical ( I would have hated to make lines for the restrooms during SAG stops).

I love the Solvang scenery and the route. We look froward to this ride every year. Even with the rain, this ride was enjoyable. I felt that the police presence was very adequate. An officer seemed to pass me about every 20 minutes. The intersections were also aided by police officers.
As I say every year, I wish they would give out medals for all finishers. I love the medals and do collect them. The tire patch and tube was nice, but I did not need those, I have them all packed and ready to go in my kit, especially for my type of tires. I’m not sure what a Schwag or perk is, ‘Im guessing it is free stuff. There was free stuff, but not something I would enjoy, again, I would love a medal.
Sorry for the negative, but I think you should know, the SAG stop was disappointing. The minimal amount of fruit, sandwiches and nuts were sloppily thrown in boxes left on a table and unattended by staff. It was left for us cyclist to reach our dirty hands into boxes to pick out what we wanted, no cups or serving spoon in the nuts box, ewww. The only staff I saw who interacted with the cyclists was at the water station, 2 girls were pouring gallon buckets of water into our bottles. There were about 9 other volunteer girls sitting around playing among themselves, they were screaming and louder than the 50 cyclist there trying to rest and regroup at this SAG stop, even an adult volunteer female near by kept yelling for the girls to quiet down. I really couldn’t leave the 1st SAG stop fast enough. I wish they were giving away cliff or protein bars here, I would have grabbed them and left.

This was my first century ride, and it didn’t disappoint. I highly suggest it to others looking for a first century (if you train well for at least 7 weeks) and to those looking for another Century to do.
PROS: Beautiful ride (Can’t be over-stated!!). The people are great. The food is wonderful (lots of options at the 5 SAG stops: Clif bars, fruits, sandwiches, SPIZ, etc. and a pretty amazing meal at the end). Lot’s of cops looking out for safety and very little road traffic in the hill portions. Also had RFID chips on helmets for course times and a time challenge up “The Wall.”
CONS: Cost is a bit high for what you get, although I think the SAG stops were way above par, so that probably explains it. The route map on the website was a bit off (threw off my Garmin a few times.) The roads were pretty bad, which is normal in this area.
I plan on doing this ride almost every year from now on!

Although it rained this year, the Solvang Century is always a great experience. Scenery is top-notch. Half, metric and full course options. Route markings can be sometimes hard to spot but easy enough to navigate. And local law enforcement does a terrific job patrolling the course and keeping the riders safe. There is a full support SAG station every 20-30 miles so the ride is very well supported. I keep coming back every year to ride. I recommend this ride to all!

Rode the 50 mile ride. The first half was enjoyable on country back roads and nice scenery. Good support from staff on this section. SAG stop was ok with fruit options but only fluid available was water. Good number of porta potties so no waiting in line. Things really changed after the first half. The ride took a boring 4 mile tour around Lompac on city streets. Route marks around Lompac were difficult to find and no assistance was available at major intersections in city. The rest of the ride was along Rt 246 which is a busy highway with cars passing at high speed. I felt it was dangerous and road construction in some areas added to the frustration. There were no real challenging hills on the 50 mile ride so I will definitely be upgrading to the Metric Century Ride next year.

I have ridden the Solvang metric century twice and it is my favorite century! Amazing scenery, challenging climbing, but not unachievable for the average cyclist (~4000 ft of climbing). The metric has 3 well stocked rest stops and there is always plenty of SAG support on the route. The
road condition is good for the most part, there are a few stretches that are pretty rough, especially right after the second rest area, but over all nice. This is always a beautiful, friendly and fun day! Highly recommended.

This was my first Solvang Century ride and overall I really enjoyed the experience despite the rainy and windy weather. I ended up doing the metric due to the weather and others saying the route is much more scenic than the 100mile one and I am glad I did – beautiful scenery with lots of stunning wineries and fields around. The roads could have been a bit smoother as there were lots of potholes and debris but it is the ‘country side’. I will definitely come back next year as overall it was a good ride and fun times in Solvang! Thank you to all volunteers!!

Finally I was able to schedule to ride this event after years being on my bucket list and it lived up to the expectation. Beautifully scenic course, great post ride BBQ, and the weather couldn’t have been ordered any better for this year. Organizationally the event was well run, plenty of food/drink at the ride stations, and good traffic control at the important points on the course. Definitely would like to come again in the future.

This was my very first solvang century and it was an absolute blast. There was a very friendly atmosphere as everyone was just trying to have a great time. The scenery is beautiful. Morning started chilly and foggy…but pretty quickly cleared up to a beautiful day. The scenery is stunning. Also have to say that the rest stops were very well managed and stocked with plenty of options. I would definitely do this ride again!

After enduring a harsh Utah winter, riding the Solvang Century is a refreshing way to kick off the warmer season. I’ve ridden the Solvang Century twice now and hope to continue to ride for many years to come. This ride is very well organized from check-in, to clearly marked routes, SAG stations, the staff and also the Police Officers that supported and directed traffic for the riders. Nothing beats riding beautiful, green wine country. I recommend this ride to everyone.

This was my first solvang century and I absolutely loved it! The weather was nice, starting in the mid-40s (cold!) but warming up to the 80’s, with options to ditch swag at the first few stops. In general, the roads were great and the scenery was beautiful! There were a few sections of road that were just terrible / very uncomfortable to ride on, but that’s inevitable in any long ride. The aid stations were well stocked for us (though I heard they ran out of water later), and had fresh fruit and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. All the volunteers were super nice and I’d definitely ride again! On Friday around 7, the registration line was literally hundreds of people long, which was disappointing, but apparently moved fast. I went back at 8:30 and it was empty.

My first Solvang Century. I loved the route. Awesome scenery. Cold in the morning: able to wear a jacket and then drop-off at the first SAG stop was priceless. Some of my buddies braved the cold. Why bother.?. take advantage of the support staff and have a way more comfortable first 30 miles. Our group of 8 will be back next year.

This was my first 100 mile cycling event, and I have to say it was marvelously organized. Check-in was very easy and quick (despite the long cue we saw when we arrived, it really did move very fast), volunteers and organizers were very friendly and clear with the instructions.
The race was very well organized. The markings were clear on the paving, differentiating between 50-75-100 miles in colors. The stops were fantastic… people were very helpful and there was a lot of snacks and water to recharge for the next stage.
There were porta w.c on every stop, and we even got a sunscreen stand on one of them! Which I must say, it saved my skin- because we started with heavy fog and finished with bright bursting sun.
The best thing was to me the amazing views and scenery. Beautiful rural and agricultural land crops, and everything so unbelievably green…
I would do this non-competitive ride again in a heart beat.

Parking was great this year with the lot in the back. I was able to register in the morning with ease also. Swag was minimal, but I don’t really care about that. Overall, the course scenery is beautiful!!!! The road could use some work, but that is also part of the charm as it is a low traffic area (wineries). The rest stop areas were adequately supplied with good options (i.e. fruit, nuts, salty carbs, water). Post finish celebrations were decent… pretty easy to collect post ride meal and drinks. This was my second time doing this ride and will likely do it again in the future.

Loved this ride. Fantastic event to kick-off the cycling season. Not too hard, not too easy (did the 100K). The food at the end of the ride was excellent – especially the chicken and brownies!

This is an excellent event. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous. The staff is amazing. I had a booth at the event. The load in and out was great. The event people were helpful and very accommodating. The ride is well supported and you always felt like you were heading the right way and I never used a map. Thanks again for a great day. I will ride this event each year and will do a vendor booth again next year as well. As soon as you announce the date I’m booking my hotel!!!

Such a fun ride. Roads are not the greatest, but Solvang is fun, good hills, good stops and most importantly…SPIZ at every stop. We get the Platinum package at Corque where all the festivities are. We have done this two years now, and plan to continue. The staff is really friendly as well.

The registration online was easy, though the price of $125 I thought was rather expensive for including only an after ride dinner, no t-shirt, etc. The line to pick up the registration packet was a 45 minute wait.
I was very surprised not to see any kind of breakfast food available for the riders at the start line, not even coffee!
Although the website and an email stated the metric century would start at 7 am, the flyer in the ride packet with the route stated an 8 am start time. Kinda confusing.
The scenery was exceptionally beautiful this time of year with all the rain we had received, though about 20-25 percent of the roads were very rough, like riding on cobblestone. The roads were virtually car free and the intersections in town had police presence directing traffic. The route sheets and markings were more than adequate and very easy to see on the road. The SAG stops were fairly well stocked, but did not offer electrolytes or anything that was “pocketable” to take along for between SAG stops. The dinner was good, though nothing special, dry chicken. Also, the dinner food did run out before all people were able to eat. Fortunately I did a shorter ride and got in early.
I had a fun time and would plan to do this ride again in the future, but would hope the management would incorporate some of the rider’s comments for an improved event.

While this years ride was a little less in terms of what you got for your money, the scenery and overall ride is still spectacular. I have done mostly Century options for this ride for the last 20 years but I am now sold on the Metric Century. You have a very challenging course and all the big climbs but you get done by lunch time. You can’t beat the scenery. The road conditions in one area are horrible but overall an amazing ride. This year there were no Cliff bars at any of the SAGs but I did like the pickle juice at the last SAG. I have already reserved my room in Solvang for next year for this ride. If there is a Century ride to get in for the year, this is the one.

The iconic spring classic Solvang Century is a must do event. There are three ride distances that suit riders of all abilities. There is a reason why pro teams have been coming to that area to train for many decades, it is beautiful! Treat yourself to a bike tour of the Santa Ynez wine country.

Fun ride over a great course for the Metric Century. My first ride and my fiance who had a problem and needed to take a sag vehicle back to the finish from the last sag stop. Excellent support. Weather was great and will do again. SAG stops could have been better organized and have more fuel for the road. Seemed like they skimped on the food.

Great views. Enjoyed the ride! Would recommend the following; Coffee in the morning, electrolytes at rest stops, reminder for riders cycling etiquette, too many close calls and I never had to say “on your right” so much. After meal BBQ chicken was too dry. Price is a little higher than most.

Road the half Century route. Good ride but some sections of the road was pretty bad. Felt like riding the cobblestones. On the positive side this meant there was little or no traffic on most of the route. Road markings were excellent. Going through the intersections felt very safe because of the presence of law enforcement assisting with traffic control at most major intersections.

What I appreciate most about this event was the support from the SAG stops, especially the first stop. I think I only rode about .5 miles away from SAG 1 when I noticed I couldn’t unclip my right shoe. I pulled over and noticed that two screws were missing from my shoe. I decided to go back to SAG 1 because I remember seeing a bike mechanic set up. I was so grateful that Pat from Jaxbicycles MacGyvered my clipless pedal back to functioning order otherwise I’m not sure how I would have got through the rest of the 47 miles safely. In general, I really appreciate the volunteers who oriented me on the route during bib pick-up, who were cutting fruit, pouring water, offering spiz and those who directed traffic so that I could ride through an intersection worried free.

One drawback was that there were a couple of bumpy sections on the road that were uncomfortable, like right after SAG 2. It felt like I was riding on cobblestones. For a moment I thought, should I just get off my bike and walk this uneven section, but I didn’t because I likely would have fallen.

Lastly, I was grateful for the beautiful scenery, especially when riding uphill. It’s brutal with the incline, but some of the views distracted me temporarily from the pain my thighs were feeling.

In conclusion, do this ride and bring your friends!

Well organized ride even with so many riders. First two rest stops were crowded, but thinned out after that. 100 mile route was not too tough on our tandem, but most of the climbing is on the last part of the ride. The after ride meal was decent, but have had much better at other rides.

As a cycle-commuter I have never been attracted to large organized rides- but a friend talked me into giving it a try. Living in San Diego I am used to an unfriendly cycling environment- and my expectations of the ride were based on my experiences in commuter traffic. I was completely suprised how friendly the roads in and around Solvang were. Drivers were generous with giving right of way- and didn’t seem agitated by our presence. The scenery during the ride was almost surreal. The greenery was endless and the wine country offered a visual feast as we ticked away the miles. There were enough skilled riders encourage me to push my limits- but never did I feel out of place or intimidated. What a great experience. Looking forward to Solvang 2018!

We rode this version of the metric century for the first time. It was incredibly scenic and the traffic along this section was enjoyably light. The climbs on this section were challenging, but a fair test. If I had a suggestion, it would be for SCOR to print their t-shirts on white, gray, navy or black. I would have purchased one had it not been in that funky color.

I can speak to the metric century & the first SAG stop for all rides…. wonderful. It’s a beautiful country road leading out towards the coast. There was minimal car traffic and excellent views of the valley. This first 23 miles was pretty easy. The climb over Harris grade isn’t trivial but gives a rewarding down hill roll. The organizers struggled with ride support basics at the next two SAG stops – both ran out of water (to be fair it arrived at both after some waiting some 10 -15 minutes, not sure exactly how long here). It was a hot day so they clearly under estimated – many of the snacks ran out as well. Lastly, the promised end of ride meal also ran out. I feel for the many Century riders behind me, I am sure they were likely starving after their ride. I hope the SCOR organizers take some logistics lessons and updated their planning approach for next year – I will be returning for this rewarding experience (with additional water bottles, just in case).
