I rode the 150 mile option (100 day 1 and 50 day 2). It was a good ride. Volunteers were helpful, sag stops were well stocked, on course mech support was good too. I enjoyed the one way route with the ride on the bus back, it was different and cool. The only negatives I could think of are the cost and course markings were a little hard to see at times.

I’ve ridden Bay-to-Bay for almost 10 years. The coastal and in-town routes are awesome. Yes, there are major climbs in the afternoon for the longer routes. But you can’t start in San Elijo and go north to Irvine then back to Carlsbad. Signage (direction arrows) are so good, that you don’t need the route slips. Ride with your head up, stay alert, and you’ll see all the signs. Rest stops are great. And the times I’ve needed mechanical help on the course, other rides are willing to help – in addition to the Ride Marshals and SAG vehicles. My review reflects my experiences on ride, and it may differ from others. If you’ve had bad experiences, sorry. If you give it another chance, look for me at the Irvine and Carlsbad starts (guy with the airplane on his helmet). You’re welcome to ride with me and I promise you’ll find the ride as enjoyable as I’ve described.

Lastly, this is a fundraiser with a minimum pledge + hotel stay Sat night + transportation to Irvine/SD. But the cause and fun are well worth the cost.

You have to experience the Bike MS – Bay to Bay ride/event. Plenty of route options for all levels of riders and they are all scenic. Some roads are a little tight, but are so well traveled by cyclist that you feel safe. In addition, you are helping a wonderful organization find a cure for MS. Sign up!

Starting with registration, It was very easy to register but the options to pick up the packet was limited. Also the schwag on the day of packet pickup, from what I heard was more in previous years.
Day of ride- Directions to start point and parking were very convenient.very well organized with ample amount of help.
The Ride- The route was very well marked and the amount of rest stops with hydration and food was phenomenal. Lunch was very well catered.
Post Ride- The layout for the Dinner gave riders a chance to converse with each other and the dinner was gourmet.
I recommend putting this ride on your bucket list!

Great ride. Rest stops were well spaced out and provided much needed food, hydration, and bike maintenance. I rode the 75 mile option. The hills after 50 miles were challenging.

A good event for a good cause. Here’s the straight story on the upside / downside:

    Could have been better:
    – Website was a bit confusing, hard to find route sheets, hard to understand ride options
    – A fair bit of the ride was on streets, in traffic….probably unavoidable

    Was really good / great:
    – The route is beautiful
    – The ride is very well supported, friendly staff at the stops
    – Great energy and very well-attended

I joined the MS Bike Bay to Bay 2018 from Irvine to San Diego for the 150 mile century ride.
All the rest stops were well planned and provided all kinds of service to help riders to be recharged, not only the goodies on the tables, but also the hospitality from the volunteers.
This is my first time to join such a big event and what was really meaningful to me. It was a challenge to myself but I was so impressed with the people that support the National MS Society for the fund raising. To me, this will just be the beginning and I will plan to participate every year from now on.

This was my fourth time doing this ride and it’s always been amazing. The routes are challenging and the weather has always been fantastic. I’ve been very honored to ride for such a great cause and hopefully we can get more riders to help us find a cure for MS.

What a classy event that raises money for a great cause. While the ride and the elevation can be brutal on your limbs the mission underlying the ride is compelling that any doubts about participating evaporate on the first mile are you pass some of the most amazing vistas and terrain on Earth.

The ride organizers clearly are professionals and plan great layouts for all distances. The rest stops were well placed and the food and nutrition provided at the stops along the way were first class.

I wish this ride was twice a year but I’m satisfied with making this my most special ride all year

This was my first time participating in the Bike MS Bay to Bay ride. My co-worker who’s been an active participant recommended the ride to me and shared many positive experiences. It was a very well organized event. From registration to the start line, the amazing route, and accommodations, it was a well-organized event. I was impressed at how well everything turned out. While the ride itself wasn’t easy to complete, I appreciate the volunteers along the way in making a memorable experience. I will definitely consider participating in this ride again next year.

Overall, a nice ride for a great cause. But the route marking was not great – got lost on the 100 mile ride with about 30 other riders – which means the route needed to be marked much better. Also – not that I care about the Swag that much – but much of the stuff was gone by the time the 100 mile riders were getting in – which means it’s a bummer if the 25 mile riders finish in an hour, then grab all the swag and massage times. Just saying.

The MS Ride from Irvine to San Diego is THE ride that epitomized ‘riding with a purpose.’ The individuals and families of individuals who are and have been affected by Multiple Sclerosis are what make this ride special. No energy shot or drink will renew and inspire you as well as the committed folks who cheer the riders all along the ride. Rain or shine they never fail to encourage and appreciate the riders! Very special.

There is a relatively high minimum amount of fundraising for entry into MS rides, this one is $400. But for this you get a huge 2 day event, loads of well staffed and stocked rest stops, lots of on course support, 4 meals, a reception with live music after day 1, a great goody bag, etc. And more perks as you raise more money, although you can donate those back. The format of the rides is also nice. Day 1 50 miles is about as flat as you can get a 50 mile ride: a great entry level. 75 and 100 mile rides continue from there, climbing into the hills around San Diego. Day 2 is similar, there is a short and long (50 mile) version, the longer version doing extra climbing. But everyone climbs La Jolla Grade, a cat 4 climb, midway on day 2, which can be intimidating for beginners but establishes this event as a serious ride. The coastal scenery along the route is great. Camp Pendleton is a long stretch with very little traffic. The new food sponsor, Habit Burgers, was a big hit as a lunch option on both days, but there were other great food truck lunch options for the finish line on day 2. Monster/Hansen is also a nice sponsor offering more than just their energy drinks, but I did opt for a Monster on both days. My only criticism is more of a trade off for course selection. There are a few sections of the ride that have some traffic to deal with. In exchange you stay near the coast and the course can accommodate the thousands for riders in the event. The course is constantly being changed in these areas in an effort to improve the situation, and this year’s route was the best yet.

    Very much enjoyed the ride.
Second day seemed more challenging than in past years.
The day-2 long (50 mile) course covered more hills.
Additionally, the course takes riders into La Jolla business area.
Traffic in that area could be difficult, not the fault of the organizers but of the drivers in La Jolla.
Course sections along the water were absolutely beautiful.
I found the ride an enjoyable challenge and am looking forward to next year.

A wonderful event. I have been riding in this event for 14 years and will continue to ride as long as my legs are working. This year I was able to take my son on Tandem and we both had just a wonderful time. We practiced our 50 miles for months prior to the event, and even with that it is a long haul for a 12 year old child. He was so excited about the festivities, medals, bonding with many riders during the event that he wanted to go again in 2017.
